Moulting period

Now that the moulting period is just around the corner, I get questions on Messenger, Mail, App and phone what one can do and give best during the moulting period. Now there are many roads that lead to Rome. There are various possibilities to guide the pigeons in the moulting period. However, one thing must be borne in mind.

The moulting period is an important period because in this period the wings are made to perform next season. I hear now that everything is getting more expensive, that the pigeons now have to make do with less. I do not think this is a sensible starting point. By acting in this way, one runs the risk that the pigeons have to start it according to season with a weak plumage. The prices will probably not be optimal. It is better to keep fewer pigeons but to take care of them optimally during moulting.

What is optimal care during moulting?
As mentioned, there are several roads that lead to Rome. We have a whole range of products to give during moulting. But I choose simplicity. If you want to take the time, you can give the pigeons Pigeon Herb Tea with Moulting seeds for a week. An old but proven method to start the moulting season.

Is there a difference between Tea and Tincture?
In a tincture, the ingredients are extracted from the herbs by extraction with alcohol for several months. With tea, the herbs are boiled and the ingredients are added to the water. A tincture is usually many times more powerful.

Moulting season
I myself start the moulting season with a two-week course with our Basis-T. Where the T stands for tincture. The herbs in the Basis-T have a detoxifying effect on the body and also on the liver. During the moulting season, the liver should be able to work properly. In order to be able to withstand that process well, a cleansing of the liver and kidneys is therefore not a superfluous luxury.

Product explanations
With the Basis-T we want to support that process. We can also support the liver well with Choline-containing products such as the Bony Bonichol or Sedochol. The pigeons get that for 10 days after the Basis-T. After that, our pigeons receive the Bony Basic Core with Bony Bio BMT and Omega Nucleovit as standard over the feed and the Moult vitamin in the drinking water. With this we guide our pigeons well through the moulting season and the pigeons then have a good plumage. Medications should be avoided as much as possible during moulting.

In addition to herbs, the Basic Core also contains minerals and belongs as standard in basic care. In addition to proteins and brewer's yeast, the Bony Bio B.M.T also contains probiotics and intestinal-supporting esterified fatty acids that make it more difficult for harmful bacteria to find a home.

Finally, the Omega Nucleovite contains nucleotides that are built into the cells during cell division. Especially during the moulting period, it is desirable to have enough of this available so that the body does not have to spend too much energy on producing these substances. The moulting vitamin, of course, speaks for itself.

Only if the pigeons show diseases should one consider medication. In case of a defective condition, it may be necessary to take additional measures during moulting. But that should be the exception than the rule. Think of extra support for Powerglutavit or Iron boost.

After the Moulting period we give the pigeons a few weeks of PreviSal. We are certainly not in favour of preventive antibiotic treatments after moulting, supposedly to stay ahead of Salmonella. The fact is rather that sleeping Salmonella is actually woken up. After the moulting period towards the new breeding period, we then give the pigeons the SGR available for a longer period of time.
